Blood Will Tell is a new Netflix thriller from Argentina [org. title La Misma Sangre]. The Netflix movie is a psychological thriller with elements of mystery to drive the plot. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but never too slow.

If you’ve enjoyed some of the best Argentinian (or even other Spanish-language) movies in the past, then you should definitely give this one a chance.

The power of a character-driven plot

When Blood Will Tell first starts out, we see the story unfold from one point of view. However, we will soon change to see the same story from another point of view. This second plot view will end up giving you a lot of factual knowledge.

In other words, you won’t have to guess what happens, because you will get to see exactly what did happen.

This simple plot device ensures that you get completely involved with the story since it’s no longer about what happened but rather who will know what happened.

Blood Will Tell is a heavily character-driven plot and it’s fascinating in all its twists and development. Both small and large – including the very ending of Blood Will Tell.

Blood Will Tell - Review [Netflix - La Misma Sangre]

Such a brilliant cast

The cast of Blood Will Tell is absolutely spot on. I don’t know any of the cast members too well, but that doesn’t matter one damn bit. Also, you probably won’t like too many of the characters, but that’s part of its charm; The characters are flawed and real.

Oscar Martínez plays the main protagonist of Elias, who is both the father of his two adult daughters and husband of his wife of 35 years. However, nothing much is as it appears.

Not long after the movie begins, it becomes very obvious that Elias (Oscar Martínez) is a very selfish person. Basically, he will stop at nothing to achieve what he wants. Or maybe just what’s expected of him. It is very eerily reminiscent of real life where people might loose sight of the big picture when they focus too much on what they want.

Watch Blood Will Tell on Netflix!

The new Netflix thriller is well worth your time. Especially if you’ve enjoyed movies like the Academy Award-nominated The Secret in Their Eyes (org. title El secreto de sus ojos) which was later remade in the US.

Also, another obvious comparison is Your Son (org. title Tu Hijo) which is out on Netflix now as well. Especially Your Son has much of the same feel and vibe since both feature a man who is very focused on his own goal.

Blood Will Tell was directed and co-written by Miguel Cohan and while I didn’t know him before this movie, I certainly liked his style. The script was co-written by Ana Cohan and the two have worked together on several movies in the past.

If you like an intense and realistic character-driven thriller, then Blood Will Tell is definitely for you!

Blood Will Tell (La Misma Sangre) was released on Netflix US on June 21, 2019.

Plot

Family patriarch Elías begins to unravel after the death of his wife. Especially when a suspicious light on her tragic accident points towards him.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
